CITY HALL OF THESSALONIKI

Panhellenic architectural competition, Thessaloniki 1987 i

Architectural study: architectural team “ALALITOS”

The City Hall’s building is located in a significant spot of the city where two of its facades form a corner in the junction of G’ Septemvriou and B. Georgiou streets. One of the first issues of the study was the handling of this aspect of the building. As the movement on these two axis is mainly a notably intense movement of vehicles, it was considered crucial to develop a sharp front, an austere still “facade” in this part of the building complex, in contrast to the city’s changing rhythm of vehicles movement.
