The Municipal Swimming Pool of Ilioupoli is located at the junction of Messinias and Arxiepiskopou Damaskinou streets in Ilioupoli.

The planted roof of Ilioupoli’s Municipal Swimming Pool will be accessible for athletes, residents and visitors, given  existing static tolerances and the need  for events helding. Another goal is the creation of a large open area with particular features, which mainly serve athletes’ and visitors’ gathering and recreation. Furthermore, the area’s proximity to a school complex will mobilize the organization of environmentally-directed educational excursions, offering  the students the opportunity to enrich their environmental knowledge.

The synthesis of the landscape is based on the creation of a planted parabolic grid, which covers the roof’s surface. The grid consists of successive plant waves, which refer to the natural rather than  the strict structural building’s grid and to its proximity to the water element of the swimming pool.

The plant waves are supplemented by thinner, higher, and color-signified shrub plantings, which follow the curved tracings.

The elevated garden will integrate the building into the general natural environment of Ymittos’ outskirts.

The materials of the infrastructure which compose the green roof, are mainly recycled and recyclable, while the thickness of the used substrate protects and reinforces the insulation. In this way, on one hand, energy savings are ensured during warm summer months, due to reduced need for the cooling of the building, and on the other hand, during the cold period, as the heating needs are minimized.
