BIOCLIMATIC UPGRADE OF AL. PANAGOULI SQUARE AND OF THE SURROUNDING AREA IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF AGIOS DIMITRIOS

The region of Panagouli Square and the perimeter roads is a significant entrance to the Municipality of Agios Dimitrios. The area under study occupies a surface of 12.800m². It is a transportation and transition junction for many citizens, residents and tourists as well. The proposal includes bioclimatic interventions, in order to improve the area’s microclimate, control the urban climate change and upgrade aesthetically and functionally the open public area.   

The main synthetic and functional characteristics of the intervention are associated with:

• the transformation of the strictly delimited square into a green square-recreation park with curvilinear tracings,
• the improvement of the routes’ flooring materials  and the amelioration of their accessibility for Disabled People through ramps
• the creation of a central area for recreation, promenade and sittting,
• the creation of a Bioclimatic Canopy,
• the design of an elongated Water arrangement
• the creation of an ellipsoidal area for gathering marked by  a “Green Wall” structure, which could serve as a cultural stage.
