The current problematic situation in Theater Square –indicative of many places in Athens’ center– concerns the urban web, the building shells, the public outdoor spaces and the town’s social network as well. This linking is based on the connection of such areas with the intensity of relationships between that part of population in Athens which was until recently considered as local inhabitants and a population composed by members with different racial origins, habits and survival pursuits. The requirement for the reformation of Theater Square and of its surrounding area is, therefore, a recast of the need to ameliorate the social conditions in the city center. Without a violent expulsion and a social exclusion, this requirement can be achieved through the improvement of land uses and the upgrade of the public urban area, with the further purpose of the growth in tolerance and the acculturation of differentiations.
